New Coldplay AlbumThe new Coldplay album entitled “Mylo Xyloto”(pronounced as my-lo zy-letoe), is the band’s fifth and latest album which was released last October 24, 2011. It followed their Viva La Vida album last 2008, which has been well received around the world, with its album having ranked one of the top in various charts. One might ask, “What could Mylo Xyloto possibly mean?” Although the meaning behind those 2 words isn’t quite clear, Coldplay’s Lead singer Chris Martin shared in an interview that the title was created out of the “randomness of the universe”. He said that music sort of comes through the fingers and toes, coming up with the title thinking “what if you had musical digits, like xylo toes?”. Thus, the title “Mylo Xyloto” was born.

Themes, Genres, and Inspirations of the New Coldplay Album

Aside from the album’s unique name, the band was motivated by certain themes, genres, and inspirations throughout making the album. According to lead singer Chris Martin, the new Coldplay album was inspired by the New York Graffiti in 1970 and the White Rose, a Nazi resistance movement, both of which were about how the youth embraced art in times of turmoil. The colorful graffiti in the album cover art translates this theme very well.

This shines through in the songs of the new Coldplay album. A lot of the songs have big choruses and inter-meshing instrumentals, that magnify the feeling of sparks igniting within. A mix of genres and musical experimentation is present, but the previous style is also maintained in some of its songs in the album.
